Templeton Talks Batman Adventures #3 - by
Jim Harvey
Toon Zone was able to catch up with Ty Templeton to discuss
Batman Adventures #3, coming in June from DC Comics.
"If there was any way to clone myself and split my life into
two," said Templeton. "I'd spend one life with my wife, my kids,
my house, my job, doing all the things I do now, and I'd spend
the other life writing Joker and Harley stories."
Batman Adventures #3 has Harley and the Joker on the
run—but the Joker has become a pussycat, and Harley isn't
enjoying the change. Templeton said that the basic plot and page
breakdowns for the story only took four hours to do. But while
the script took him only a short time, he did find himself stuck
once or twice.
"Dan Slott wrote one of the better lines of dialogue in the
script, and my wife wrote one of the other ones," said
Templeton. "But since there's at least two or three hundred
other lines of dialogue in the story, I'm still going to
consider myself the author. It's good to be married to a smart,
clever lady, and it's good to be joined at the phone to a clever
writer when the brain goes dry for a good line."
What if great art and a solid story can't sell the issue? Well,
Templeton has that already figured out.
"There's a greater volume of tapioca pudding in this issue than
in any other Batman story ever written," said Templeton.
