Review

Batman's identity is revealed to a little kid who was on the top of a burning building, who wouldn't go in fear that Batman was a "bad guy." After the revelation, Kobra targets the kid after he reveals that he knows Batman's identity.

Initially after viewing this episode almost a year ago, I rather enjoyed it. Having watched this episode a total of 4 times now, I can officially say, it's not one of the better Batman Beyond episodes.

First off, we got the plot. For such a cool name as "Unmasked", you would've thought the episode would have more depth than some kid finding out that Terry's Batman--maybe having Dana find out.. or, I don't know, something other than a kid. In addition to that, there was Max--now, I really never had a problem with her until now. I don't know what it was, but she just really irked me in this ep, and I couldn't get the feeling of just wanting to flick her off the screen.

Lets talk about the animation for a second. It definitely wasn't the worst I've seen, but it wasn't the best. At times, it seemed rather jumpy, and generally this episode was just very... bland, when it came to the colors. Having said that, I didn't have any other real problems with it.

Overall, this episode wasn't spectacular or earth shattering--and considering its long delays in airing, definitely wasn't worth the wait.

Trivia: "Unmasked" was originally scheduled to air on September 14, 2001, but was pulled due to sensitivity surrounding the episode's terrorism-related content and child endangerment plot in light of the recent September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City. It was replaced with a rerun of "Hooked Up." The episode eventually debuted on December 18, 2001 on Cartoon Network.
