Review: Stu - AAccomplices begins our Gang War arc, I’ve been looking forward to this for a while as I’ve really enjoyed the previous outings with The Big Man and Spidey works so well in the organised crime world. It makes me miss seeing The Kingpin all the more but alas, with how well they’ve utilised Tombstone, his absence becomes all the more bearable. It was actually surprising to see that he didn’t appear here again – they really are building up for his return.

It was nice seeing Black Cat again – didn’t expect that at all. I love that everything in this show comes as a surprise now – no one seems intent on ruining these twists by plastering them all over the internet – it’s like watching cartoons when I was a lad! This show has been very successful in brining back the older villains while mixing it up with characters we’ve never seen before – some of whom are destined to become big players in the show. I was especially excited to see Roderick Kingsley introduced here as he will, eventually, presumably, probably become The Hobgoblin, one of my favourite Spidey villains. I don’t know if we need another long running who’s behind the mask storylines but that’s what Hobgoblin was all about and this show has done a cracking job with its long running mysteries. I like that he was shown to be out of his league but trying to buy his way into the age of supervillains which is sweeping New York throughout this show. Weisman has promised Hobgoblin in season three if the show is renewed, which should make just about any Spidey fan excited.

The rest of the episodes see the introduction of Silver Sable and a classic bait and switch for the schematics to mass produce the armour which lead to the creation of The Rhino. Quite why Dr. Octopus needed these as he designed the treatment was lost on me. Perhaps he was just keeping tabs on what the other crimelords were up to? As spectacular as the runaround for the specs was, the episode was simply the beginning of bigger things for this storyline. While it’s too good to call it filler, there’s nothing groundbreaking here. Sit back and enjoy!
