After Peter Parker's parents were killed in a plane crash, Ben Parker and his wife May took their nephew into their home and raised him as their own. Ben raised Peter and taught him right from wrong, instilling in himt hat with great power there must also come great responsibility. After gaining his spider-like abilities and fame, Peter refused to stop a mugger after a performance. That same mugger later broke into his home and killed his Uncle Ben. That moment, and Peter's failure to follow his Uncle's advice, continue to impact Peter's life on a daily basis both in and out of costume.

In Armoured Spider-Man's dimension, Ben Parker was never killed and was able to help the Spider-Men in their bid to stop Spider-Carnage, by showing him that with great power comes great responsibility, after which Spider-Carnage ceased trying to destory the universe and sacrificed himself.
