A strange interdimensional being of immense power, Madame Web took Spider-Man under her wing to prepare to face a threat, "a horror beyond belief." When Spider-Man struggled to catch the criminals or put the clues together, Web would point him in the right direction in order to educate him for the battle she was preparing him for.

She and her master, The Beyonder created the "Secret War" in order to test Spider-Man's leadership skills for the upcoming "Spider-Wars" in which he led six alternate reality versions of himself. After saving all reality, Madame Web eventually introduced Spider-Man to Stan Lee and would eventually Spidey with his long lost love, Mary Jane.
