The Spider-Slayers are a series of robots created by Dr. Spencer Smythe for the sole purpose of capturing and killing Spider-Man. Norman Osborn funded the robots, and hired Spencer Smythe to build them in order to pay off a debt he owed to The Kingpin. After the original Spider-Slayer and Spencer Smythe were apparently destroyed in an explosion, Spencer's son, Alistair, began working for The Kingpin and he engineered new, deadlier Spider Slayer robots to test Spider-Man.
