As said in practically every Teen Titan review I’ve ever done, I love how the tone of the show can dramatically shift in every episode, and still not feel out of place. A type of show where they can do a comedy episode, yet not have fan boys complain that it was a complete waste of time.

In a rare turn for action cartoons, the comedy episodes have arguably produced some of the best episodes. “Mad Mod”, “Fractured” and my personal favorite, “Date with Destiny”. “Can I Keep Him?” Works as a fine blend of both, especially thanks to the 2 villains in the episode, both returning from previous episodes. There were some moments that genuinely tugged at the heartstrings, specifically Starfire crying. We’ve never seen it before, and it got an “awwwww” moment from me, which was quickly forgotten by Cyborg’s “Sweet! My leg! Credit goes to Khary Payton, who delivered a perfect scream. May he forever be remembered as a legend for screaming like a girl.

Starfire episodes have this horrible tendency to suck terribly, so Can I Keep Him? Gets bonus points because it’s the best Starfire by a wide margin. It also has Johnny Rancid. The ending was nice, something happy for once.

Overall, a huge lack of Beast Boy, nice animation, and an enjoyable plot makes for an entertaining episode of Teen Titans. Even if Robin wasn’t in it much...
