Direct-To-Video “Green Lantern: First Flight” Feature Debuts To Strong Home Video Sales

According to various home media retailing outlets and independent research, the new Green Lantern: First Flight direct-to-video animated feature made a strong debut on the home video sales charts. The feature hit the DVD sales chart at #5, selling an estimated 158,250 copies for the week ending August 2nd, 2009. The Green Lantern: First Flight animated feature also made a strong debut on the Blu-ray charts, placing #5 with estimated sales of 34,000 copies during the same week. Keep in mind the sales numbers above do not take into account rental numbers, OnDemand numbers, or legal download numbers.
To compare, the previous “DC Universe Animated Original Movie” title Wonder Woman debuted with nearly 107,000 in DVD sales during its debut week in March 2009.

A representative for DC Comics states that as long as the series continues to perform as it does, it will remain on shelves. Batman: The Brave and The Bold is currently selling in the same area as previous “animated” comics, including previous comic series The Batman Strikes and Justice League Unlimited.

Title For Next Direct-To-Video “DC Universe Animated Original Movie” Release Revealed
Blu-ray/DVD/Digital, DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
According to the back cover art for the upcoming Blu-ray and Two-Disc Special Edition DVD release of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, hitting shelves next month, the title of the next direct-to-video animated feature from the popular “DC Universe Animated Original Movie” line is Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Dwayne McDuffie (Justice League Unlimited) is listed as the writer for this upcoming feature. Official details on Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths are not expected until later this year. Two more additions to the “DC Universe Animated Original Movie” line are expected in 2010, including at least one Batman-themed animated feature. Details are subject to change.
