While reception to the release was high among both fans and critics for The Zeta Project: Season One on DVD, it appears as though that did not translate to solid sales numbers for Warner Home Video. The World’s Finest was able to catch up with The Zeta Project creator Bob Goodman to discuss what this means for future home video releases of the cult-favorite animated series.
“I don’t have specific numbers,” says Goodman, “Word I’m getting is that sales [for The Zeta Project: Season One] weren’t great and as of right now they’re not planning to release season two.”
With Warner Home Video unlikely to produce a The Zeta Project: Season Two DVD release, Goodman notes that fans will miss out on some of the best episodes of the series.
“To me this is a huge bummer,” he continues, “I think we all did our best work in season two, and it would be a shame for those episodes – including ‘Absolute Zero,’ which was intended as the season one finale – to not get their day in the sun.”
Goodman also adds that bonus material slated for the The Zeta Project: Season Two DVD release has already been shot, but that will currently stay tucked away for the foreseeable future.
“All I can do now is hope sales pick up, or for some other reason they change their minds,” he concludes.
Bob Goodman would like to send his appreciation to The Zeta Project fans who have supported both the series and the The Zeta Project: Season One DVD release.
Beginning with Batman The Brave and The Bold #5, scheduled to hit comic shelves this week, writer J. Torres takes over as the new regular scribe to the popular comic series based on the animated series of the same name. The World’s Finest had the opportunity to talk to Torres about what can expect from his upcoming stint.
The World’s Finest: Even though we’ve interviewed you before, there’s still the off-chance this is someone’s first time reading about you. So, once again, care to quickly us in on your background?
J. Torres: I’m a comic book writer whose credits include Teen Titans Go!, Ninja Scroll, and Wonder Girl among others. I’ve dabbled a teeny bit in animation doing a little bit of writing for the Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi Show and Edgar & Ellen. Plus, I wrote several webisodes for Degrassi: The Next Generation, both live action and animated ones relating to the graphic novels I also wrote for the show. I live just outside of Toronto with my wife and son, and my favorite color is blue.
WF: How did you end up with the Batman: The Brave and The Bold writing gig?
JT: I was originally supposed to help with a couple of fill-ins and I think the original writer, Matt Wayne, got too busy with his work in animation so I was kept on by then editor of the book Rachel Gluckstern.
WF: Can you tell us a little about the first issue of your run on the Batman: The Brave and The Bold comic series?
JT:I team Batman up with Captain Marvel and they go up against the Queen of Fables. She’s going around luring kids into her tower of terror because she needs to drink their tears to stay youthful. Captain Marvel then figures out a way to use his own youth, if you know what I mean, to help Batman save the day. The art by Carlo Barberi is beautiful. I’ve already called dibs on a few pages of original art.
WF: What do you hope to accomplish with this series as the new regular writer for the series?
JT: I’m trying to keep it in the same fun, action-packed spirit of the show, which I think is a blast. There’s so much there for us older fanboys, but there’s also a ton for kids and people new to comics to enjoy. Hopefully, the show’s fans will check out the comic book and think it compliments the show enough to make it a must read.
WF: Now, you’ve developed a fan-base for your acclaimed run on Teen Titans Go! and Legion of Super Heroes in the 31st Century. You tackled ongoing subplots and moved storylines from the respective animated series forward in the comic. Will we see this approach in Batman: The Brave and The Bold, or will we be seeing something different here?
JT: The new editor of the book, Mike Siglain, really wants to explore the relationships established on the show and even connect up to certain episodes, which I think is a cool idea. So, for example, one of the most recent plots I pitched has the “Fearsome Fangs” returning as well as Batman teaming up with Green Arrow again. The trio tries to acquire a weapon that they think will help them take over the Wudang Temple, as seen in their debut episode. In the issue, I also want to play with the friendly competition between Batman and Green Arrow as we’ve seen in a couple of episodes. The Batman/Aquaman dynamic is another one I love on the show, so chances are you’ll see Batman returning to Atlantis. I’m also itching to get my Plastic Man on!
WF: Like most of the animated comics nowadays, the artwork will be provided by different creators on an almost monthly basis. Can you drop a few hints as to who we can expect to grace the pages in the coming months?
JT: I’m guessing you’re pointing to J. Bone coming on board for an issue? That cat’s already out of the bag with the solicitation for #7, but in case you missed it, the Doom Patrol teams up with Batman in that. I just looked over the black and white lettered proof of the issue and let me tell you, it looks quite spiffy! J. Bone did a terrific job. We’re both such fans of the Doom Patrol and this incarnation of Batman that it was a fun, fun assignment.
WF: The Batman: The Brave and The Bold animated series has made a name for itself thanks to a seemingly unending horde of guest-stars. Who can we expect to see pop-up in the comics series when you take over the series, side from those you’ve already mentioned?
JT: Olympian, Hourman, and Haunted Tank appear in my first three openers. And I kind of “cheat” with Kid Eternity summoning people like Viking Prince, Vigilante, and Shining Knight in #6. And I think people will be surprised that three or four of the Great Ten appear in #8.
WF: So, as well slowly wrap this up, can you tell us why fans should pick up your debut issue of Batman: The Brave and The Bold, coming this week? Convince us!
JT: Shazam! Oh, and Gail Simone blessed it.
WF: Outside of Batman: The Brave and The Bold, care to tell us about any other upcoming projects you’d like to inform us on?
JT: I’ve got Avatar: The Last Airbender comics coming up in Nickelodeon Magazine. And if all goes according to plan, my new graphic novel Lola: A Ghost Story will debut this fall. Lastly, some of my older work just might appear on iTunes so keep an eye out…
The World’s Finest would like to thank J. Torres for his participation.

Teen Titans Star in Boomerang’s Memorial Day Marathon Twelve Action-Driven Hours of Original Animated Series Hail Start of Summer on Monday, May 25, 12 p.m.-12a.m.
Fighting for truth, justice and the last slice of pizza, the D.C. Comics Teen Titans are five super heroes who are living proof that you’re never too young to save the planet. Twenty-nine hand-selected episodes of the hit animated series will air uninterrupted over 12 hours on the commercial-free Boomerang network, Monday, May 25, starting at 12 noon and culminating at 12 a.m. (ET). Teen Titans originally premiered on Cartoon Network in 2003 to great viewer and critical acclaim, making the series an instant classic for younger generations and a TV favorite for comic book fans of all ages.
Based on the long-running DC Comics series, Teen Titans features five teenage superheroes who each exhibit special powers. The team is led by Robin, the acrobatic and daring group leader with a stocked utility belt and no fear. Beast Boy, small in stature and quick with a joke, can shift into the form of any animal, from a tiger to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Starfire is new to Earth and nave to its ways, but when it is time for a throw-down, she fights as hard as any of the others. The spooky, deadpan Raven can control inanimate objects with her powerful mental abilities. Hulking Cyborg is half-man, half-machine and the most powerful member of the team.
But Teen Titans is not all about superpowers and bad guys. Like most teens, they love hanging out with their friends, playing video games and going to parties. And also like most adolescents, they each are trying to find their place in the world and deal with their growing pains as best as they can.
“A Teen Titans marathon is the perfect way to ring in the summer,” Said Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming and scheduling for Boomerang and Cartoon Network. “Teen Titans shows us that we can be capable of great things while still having a little fun.”
Highlights of the marathon include:
* 12 p.m. (ET): “How Long is Forever?” – A super-thief from the future called WARP travels back in time to steal a priceless antique. But when the Teen Titans show up to stop him, the villain tries to escape.
* 2:05 p.m. (ET): “Date with Destiny” – A creepy criminal known as Killer Moth threatens to destroy the city with a flying army of mutant moths unless Teen Titan Robin agrees to take Killer Moth’s spoiled-rotten teenage daughter Kitten to her junior prom!
* 3:45 p.m. (ET): “Betrayal” – After a few weeks as a Teen Titan, Terra has everything she ever wanted: a nice home, good friends, and even a little romance with Beast Boy. Everything seems perfect…but is it?
* 4:35 p.m. (ET): “Aftershock: Part One” – A long-lost friend of the Teen Titans returns with a vengeance , and Slade orders Overload, Cinderblock, and Plasmus to launch a series of sinister strikes all over the city. Can our heroes stop three monsters, Slade, and their newest enemy?

BUFFY, ANGEL STAR JULIET LANDAU GOES SULTRY ALIEN IN GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT, THE NEXT DC UNIVERSE ANIMATED ORIGINAL FILM COMING TO DVD JULY 28, 2009
Actress Juliet Landau, a fanboy favorite from her devious appearances on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Angel, easily glides into the voice of sultry alien Labella in Green Lantern: First Flight, the next DC Universe animated original PG-13 movie coming to DVD on July 28, 2009.
Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation are set to release the all-new Green Lantern: First Flight on July 28, 2009. The Blu-ray Hi-Def edition, the special edition 2-disc DVD, and a single disc DVD will be distributed by Warner Home Video. The action-packed movie will also be available OnDemand and Pay-Per-View as well as available for download day and date, July 28, 2009.
Turning her attention behind the camera, Landau has received notable praise for her initial pair of directing gigs. She helmed Take Flight, a documentary centering on the creative process of actor/director Gary Oldman, which drew rave reviews at a recent advance screening. Her co-direction of the Godhead music video, “Hero,” is garnering widespread Internet acclaim. She also has been busy at the keyboard, co-writing the Drusilla story line for the Angel comic books as well as scripting Its Raining Cats and Cats, a short film in which she intends to play seven different roles.
Christopher Meloni provides the voice of Hal Jordan, the alter ego of the title character in Green Lantern: First Flight. The cast includes Victor Garber, Tricia Helfer and Michael Madsen. Landau offers a Cajun-style vocal performance for Labella, a mistress of the seedier side of the universe in which the Green Lantern Corps patrol.
Landau and Meloni have worked closely together in the past, starring as brother and sister in the 1999 award-winning independent film Carlos Wake. Landau is also another member of the growing legion of Whedonverse actors to figure prominently in a DC Universe film. Among Whedon/DCU alums are Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, James Marsters and David Boreanaz, with a few more on the DCU horizon.
Fortunately for the masses, Landau carved a few minutes out of her busy schedule to chat about voiceover work, the development of her Green Lantern: First Flight character, and the ability to grow and create in the entertainment business. So sit back and enjoy an intriguing Q&A with Juliet Landau
QUESTION: What is the enticement of voiceover for animation?
JULIET LANDAU: It is so much fun! You get to sit with a bunch of actors and play. Really play! Theres no hair and make-up, no primping just absolute, uninhibited creativity. Thats the real joy of acting. And it doesnt get any better than working with Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano.
QUESTION: Do you have a preference for the type of characters you play?
JULIET LANDAU: I like playing all different kinds of characters. Each one is its own little puzzle. Aliens are fun because you have a lot of freedom. The voice of Labella just came to me when I read the pages in a kind of organic in a way. I immediately felt like she had to sound the way I played her. When I came in for looping (pick up sound work) Andrea Romano described my Labella sound as honey-voiced. I think that really captures it.
QUESTION: Tell us about Labella?
JULIET LANDAU: There was a lot of room for invention in this character, especially with the device they use with her. I dont want to give it away, but she does go through a bit of torture and it causes a rift between Sinestro and Hal. I really liked the sexuality and the flirtatiousness of the character. Shes very different from any of the characters Ive voiced on Justice League Unlimited or Ben 10: Alien Force shes a completely unique character.
QUESTION: You spent some time acting alongside Christopher Meloni as brother and sister in Carlos Wake. Do you have any good tales to tell about our Hal Jordan?
JULIET LANDAU:Carlos Wake revolved around a big Italian family gathering together at the patriarchs funeral. The immediate Torello family rehearsed at my house prior to shooting. I remember working on this funny scene where (Chris Melonis character) Benny tells me about his existential crisis while out on the fishing boats catching tuna. With despondency, he asks something like, What is it all for? And my character Anna, who was not the sharpest tool in the shed, says something akin to I thought it was sos we could have tuna salad sandwiches
Chris was flown to New York while we were shooting to meet with Garry Marshall about Runaway Bride. Upon returning, he came into the make-up room and told us about the meeting and we were all saying, It sounds like youre gonna get this! And indeed, he did.
QUESTION: When did you start comics writing, and whats the attraction of the written word?
JULIET LANDAU: My first foray into comics is a two-issue arc about Drusilla for Angel: After the Fall. I am co-writing with Brian Lynch and enjoying it immensely. The first issue will be out in July, the second in August. I have been working with 3 different artists on some of the imagery and cover art as well. I also wrote a short film called Its Raining Cats and Cats, which I will co-direct. Exploring these different facets of creativity has been truly inspiring. As an actor, youre a component; but when youre writing and directing, it is your vision of the whole project, which is very appealing. Take Flight has been an amazing experience. Gary Oldman directed a music video shot entirely on Nokia cell phones. Initially he asked me to direct the Making Of. But what started out solely as a behind-the-scenes Making Of, bloomed into a short documentary film about Garys creative process. He loves the movie because it shows him in a light hes never been seen.

Blu-ray/DVD/Digital, DC Animated Universe, Interviews, The Zeta Project

J. Torres Discusses Taking Over The “Batman: The Brave And The Bold” Comic Series
Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Comics, DC Animated Series, DC Comics, Interviews

Press Release For Upcoming “Teen Titans” Animated Series Memorial Day Marathon
Boomerang, Teen Titans
Press Release:
Twelve Action-Driven Hours of Original Animated Series Hail Start of Summer on Monday, May 25, 12 p.m.-12a.m.

Actress Juliet Landau Discusses Upcoming “Green Lantern: First Flight” Animated Feature
Blu-ray/DVD/Digital, DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Green Lantern: First Flight
THE NEXT DC UNIVERSE ANIMATED ORIGINAL FILM COMING TO DVD JULY 28, 2009
JULIET LANDAU: Carlos Wake revolved around a big Italian family gathering together at the patriarchs funeral.
