Matt Waynes entire four-issue run on the Batman: The Brave and The Bold comic series, based on the popular Cartoon Network animated series of the same name and published by DC Comics, is collected in this weeks new Batman: The Brave and The Bold trade paperback collection. The collection includes the first six issues of the acclaimed spin-off comic, the first four issues Wayne penned. Wayne enjoyed his short stint on the comic series, and says he was very lucky to have the chance to work on the project.
“Rachel Gluckstern hired me and Andy Suriano to take Batman on a wild ride every month, says Wayne. One that came as close as possible to the crazy action of the animated Batman: The Brave and The Bold and I think we succeeded.
Wayne took great joy writing this rendition of the Batman, citing this version as one he loves to write.
He’s not grim and obsessive, maybe a little around the edges, but mostly he’s super-capable< Wayne adds. The perfect foil for DC's more colorful heroes and villains.
Getting to work with Andy Suriano was a rare treat to work with, adds Wayne, stating that he and Suriano were of similar minds when approaching this series. That was obvious after seeing the pencils for the first issue of the Batman: The Brave and The Bold comic series.
We’re talking about doing a specific project together now, but a monthly comic was just too much. Wayne adds. Still, I love looking at this stuff.
Looking back at his run on Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Wayne says hell take fond memories from his acclaimed stint on the series. He is succeeded on this title by writers J. Torres and Landry Walker, among the occasional guest writer.
The DC Universe can be so much fun, continues Wayne. And I finally realized one of my lifelong ambitions, to write Sugar and Spike in a comic!”
