Creature Commandos – This seven-episode animated show, written by James Gunn, shows Amanda Waller creating a black-ops team out of monstrous prisoners.
Provided via DC Comics, Gunn further explains the Creature Commandos animated series:
“The first series that we’re doing, and I’ve already written the entire series, is Creature Commandos. This is an animated TV series and this is art from the animation company that’s doing it. Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC.
What we’re doing with the DCU is we’re having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies and games all intertwine within the same universe. We’re going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this, as well as in other things, some of which we’ve already cast. I’ve written all seven episodes of this show and it’s in production now.
In the image (going from left to right), that’s Rick Flag, Sr. He’s going to show up in other stuff. Then Nina Mazursky. Doctor Phosphorus, a Batman villain. Frankenstein – Eric Frankenstein, specifically. The Bride of Frankenstein, who’s the lead. Finally, G.I. Robot and Weasel.”
DC Comics also released additional statements from James Gunn concerning upcoming DC Studios projects, including the future of the studio’s animated output. Concerning the future of the animated titles from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, specifically the DC Universe Movie and DC Animated Movie lines, Gunn said:
“We’re dealing with all that. Some of that stuff will continue as Elseworlds, but a lot of other stuff we’re starting to bring into animation with (Warner Bros. Animation President) Sam Register so that we’ll have things that are connected with this. I think there have been a lot of really marvelous DC cartoons, so we’re going to keep moving forward with that.”

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Animation released images and details from the Green Lantern: Beware My Power movie premiere and discussion panel at the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 pop culture convention on July 22, 2022. The studio also confirmed the four initial animated movies coming from DC Comics and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2023, previously reported here. More details and images can be found below.
It was Christmas in July as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment gave a gift, then tossed in a few surprises at 2022 Comic-Con International this past weekend.
The initial gift — the World Premiere of Green Lantern: Beware My Power — came on Friday night as the enthusiastic Ballroom 20 audience was treated to the first public screening of the latest entry in the 15-year history of the DC Universe Movies. The screening was followed by an exciting, informative and oftentimes funny panel discussion amongst actors Aldis Hodge (John Stewart/Green Lantern), Jimmi Simpson (Green Arrow), Jamie Gray Hyder (Hawkgirl) and Brian Bloom (Adam Strange) alongside the filmmaking quartet of executive producer Butch Lukic, director Jeff Wamester and co-screenwriters John Semper Jr. & Ernie Altbacker. Publicist Gary Miereanu served as moderator.
Among the many panel highlights was Aldis Hodge, the voice of John Stewart/Green Lantern in his first animated feature film starring role, surprising the crowd with an impromptu reciting of the Green Lantern Oath, delivered with an impressive intensity and joy. See the attached photo.
During the later part of the panel discussion, WBHE reminded the crowd of the final DC Animated Movie coming this Fall — Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons (10/18/22) — and then rekindled its Comic-Con tradition of announcing its initial slate of DC Universe Movies and DC Animated Movies for the following year. See the attached image. With only names announced thus far, these film titles are coming in 2023:
• Legion of Super-Heroes
• Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham
• Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part One
• Justice League: Warworld
The panelists in attendance include:

Back Row (left to right) – Ernie Altbacker, Jimmi Simpson, Jeff Wamester, Butch Lukic

Further details are expected in the coming months for these four upcoming DC Universe Movie and DC Animated Movie titles, including cast details, release dates, trailers and more. Additionally, DC Comics announced a new printing of the Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham trade paperback softcover collection, released to tie into the upcoming DC Animated Movie adaptation of the acclaimed comic mini-series of the same name, will hit shelves April 4, 2023.
