“All-Star Superman” Animated Feature Debuts To Respectable Home Video Sales


According to various home media retailing outlets and independent research, the recent All-Star Superman direct-to-video animated feature made a respectable debut on the home video market. The latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie title moved an estimated 122,000 DVD copies in its first week, along with an impressive 65,000 units in Blu-ray editions in the same timeframe, resulting in an estimated 187,000 total home video units sold in its first sales week of February 27th, 2011. The animated feature hit the DVD sales chart at #7 in its first week, and hit #3 on respective Blu-ray charts. Keep in mind the sales numbers above do not take into account rental numbers, OnDemand numbers, or legal download numbers.

To compare, the previous “DC Universe Animated Original Movie” title Superman/Batman: Apocalypse debuted with an estimated 250,000 copies sold on DVD and Blu-ray editions sold during its debut week in September 2010. The last similarly themed release, the DC Showcase Animated Original Shorts collection anchored by the exclusive Superman/Shazam!: The Return Of Black Adam animated short, debuted to a combined total of 94,500 combined units sold in its first week in November 2010.

Latest Issue Of “Young Justice” Comic Now Available Both At Stores And Digitally

Young Justice #2, the latest issue of the new DC Comics title based on the current Cartoon Network animated series, arrives in comic book and hobby stores today. The issue, written by Art Baltazar and Franco with artwork by Mike Norton, continues to reveal what happened after the conclusion of the two-part Young Justice “Independence Day” series premier. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment passed along the following new trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham City video game. Slated to arrive at stores in North America beginning Tuesday, October 18th for the Xbox 360, PC and PS3, Batman: Arkham City is set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City. This highly anticipated sequel to 2009s Batman: Arkham Asylum, introduces a brand-new story that draws together an all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprise their respective roles as Batman and Joker in Batman: Arkham City, the highly-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum video game, along with Emmy Award-winning Batman writer Paul Dini again penning the story. Collecting the final thirteen episodes from the show’s first season, the two-disc Batman: The Brave and The Bold – Season One, Part Two DVD collection is the latest home video release for the acclaimed Batman: The Brave and The Bold animated series. DC Comics has released comic solicitation information for the publisher’s June 2011 library of releases, including details for The All-New Batman: The Brave and The Bold #8, the revamped comic title based on the popular Batman: The Brave and The Bold animated series. Four new clips, in the Quicktime format, have been providing by Warner Home Video promoting the upcoming Batman: The Brave and The Bold – Season One, Part Two DVD home video release. The clips feature scenes from Batman: The Brave and The Bold episodes “Mystery in Space!” and “Trials of the Demon!” Batman: The Brave and The Bold – Season One, Part Two is set to hit shelves March 15th, 2011.
