| Review "That should teach you to give me the day off." From the moment he first appeared, Mr. Freeze reestablished how lame he can be. The design is excellent, and Clancy Brown’s voice is haunting, but does he really have to say stuff like "…a sun shade to keep me cool"?! I don’t care how great the delivery is, you can’t sound good saying stuff like that. It doesn’t help that the last
Freeze in any media prior to this spouted these off like it was all he could say. He did get a little better as the episode went on, but his entrance wasn’t very ‘ice’ from a dialogue stand-point. Most multi-villain episodes find the two (or more) rogues eventually finding some common ground and teaming up, but that really didn’t happen here. The Penguin and Mr. Freeze worked against each other until the moment their lives were in danger (and even then, they weren’t really getting along). The fire and ice battle not only looked cool, but showcased the differences between the two men.
Penguin tends to be more flashy and Freeze is well, cold. Great to see Alfred get mixed up in the main story again. Batgirl has caused him to take kind of a backseat, but I like the stories where a younger Alfred is out and about Gotham rather than cooped up in Wayne Manor all day. We learned a little something about the good butler’s past and furthered his interaction with The Penguin while not making it the focus of the story. (Interestingly enough,
Alfred’s friend, Ewan, was played by another Alfred, Birds of
Prey‘s Ian Abercrombie.) We’re used to seeing Batman do all the work and Alfred sitting in the Batcave at most. I for one enjoy seeing him more involved.
