| Review With the fourth season of The Batman has come many brilliant episodes—I’ve yet to come upon one I didn’t enjoy watching. However, with “Strange New World”, I may have come upon one of my all-time favorites. The story is simple enough, although the execution has a few twists and turns. Despite the plots clever layout, I was able to discern right away the source of the “zombies”—mainly because it was still too other-wordly feeling for The Batman, even after Dracula. Still, they offered up a great delight, both visually and as part of the story…and I won’t deny that they even got rather creepy in parts. I mean…really disturbing. One neat plot device is how the story introduces us—it opens with
Batman planting antidote bombs around Gotham, but we back peddle through the story and work our way back up to this scene throughout before we finally rush past it and get to the finale on a rooftop, full of GCPD, Batgirl and Robin. The action is intense, with the only drag coming from the repeated footage of the planted antidote bombs. I’ll leave the plot “twist” unrevealed in the event there are those who have yet to see the episode and discover the story. Still, even with this predictable bit of story, it is well worth watching and definitely ranks high on my list. I’m looking forward to the rest of this season more than any other—the crew has really found their groove and are making one of the best batch of animated Batman stories to date.
