| Superman and Professor Hamilton travel to the Fortress of Solitude to ask Brainiac how to recreate a Phantom Transporter due to Mala and Jax-Ur stealing theirs. They then proceed in building one, but one crystal is needed, which they end up getting from the other transporter after Jax-Ur destroys it thinking Superman is trapped forever in the Phantom Zone. Prof. Hamilton is barely able to bring Superman back after tracking him down in the Phantom Zone, but succeeds somehow without the crystal, though Superman goes through immense pain in the transport. He then seeks out Mala and Jax-Ur to finally end this. A much better flowing episode than Part 1, probably since it had more moving sequences than the first since the character introductions were done with. The animation and voices are fortunately still pretty consistent with things, and they even add in some nice detail. Such as in the Fortress of Solitude, you can see spare water puddles on the floor, whereas if they wanted to be lazy they could’ve just left it as a basic floor. All of the animals were nicely done as well, and very unique. Since Superman hadn’t actually called it the Fortress of Even if you hadn’t seen the first, you would probably still like this episode as it is still very enjoyable as a stand alone. There are a couple more obvious connections to Superman II, like the fighting with the constant property damages and of course Mala’s suddenly calling Jax-Ur a "General." There was some stuff that was a little disappointing though, such as the new Earth made Phantom Zone transporter being exactly the same as the last. True they did get design from Brainiac, but since this was made on Earth in a rush and likely without similar resources as it was on Krypton, it called for at least small change. I suppose this way though the animators didn’t have to worry about getting confused between the two. The fight scenes are very nicely done, using some good flowing animation for them, and just overall it was a very nicely done episode and a good end to the arc. |
