First Appearance:
Batman Adventures #14
Adventures Changes: Frozen in a statue
Bio: When Matt Hagen was a child, he, along with many
other children, loved the Gray Ghost show on TV. When the time
came for a modern remake of it, Matt Hagen took his
shape-shifting abilities to allow him to audition over a
thousand times before he finally got the part of the Gray Ghost.
Once filming was about to wrap up, the original Gray Ghost,
Simon Trent, was asked to make a cameo as the mayor--but once
Hagen saw how old and stale Trent's acting was, he went wild and
stormed off to his dressing room. Hagen captured Trent in an
attempt to keep him suppressed until his movie came out--an
effort that failed due to Batman's interference.
Both Trent and Hagen showed up simultaneously to the premiere of
the movie, causing a scuffle between the two to break out.
Deciding the best way to figure out who was who, Batman broke
Trent's concrete block, causing Hagen to go into his Clayface
form. Before the fight was over, Batman dumped Clayface into a
concrete mixer, causing Hagen's body to mix with concrete and
solidifying him. The final shape that Hagen took was that of the
Gray Ghost, and is now a permanent fixture outside of the
studio.
