Beware The Batman
#26 - Alone

Original Airdate - September 27th, 2014
As Batman and Katana fight their way out of a building surrounded by Gotham PD, Deathstroke (Robin Atkin Downes) makes his escape in the Batmobile. By the time Batman and Katana have eluded the police, their worst fears have been realized: Deathstroke has found the Batcave and taken Alfred hostage. If Batman ever wants to see Alfred alive again, he must come alone to the mansion. Even though it's suicide, Batman will save Alfred at any cost. Meanwhile, Harvey Dent faces off against Anarky, and reveals his true nature – as Two-Face. Disobeying orders, Katana gathers a group of heroes to help Batman, but it might be too late.

Lots of stuff happened in this episode, and most of it was pretty awesome. From the beginning, we have Batman and Katana fighting off SCU soldiers. Then we have Dent and Anarky having a showdown, and Dent's descent into Two-Face seems inevitable now (he's already speaking in plural); a shame we never got to see his design on the show.

Batman answering Deathstroke's challenge to come alone was expected. I liked the scene where Batman saves the Wayne family portrait from the fire. The scenes in the Batcave were amazing, featuring some very impressive choreography for the action scenes. I liked how they addressed the connection between Deathstroke and Alfred, as well as the latter's reasoning as to why he "chose" Bruce Wayne instead of Slade Wilson. Good fight scenes, like I said. Slade even loses an eye! Not sure how I really feel about the mind-washing scene as a solution to the Slade Wilson problem, but I thought is worked rather nicely.

Katana gathering the team of "Outsiders" was handled well. Barbara gets her own mask, finally. It was great to see Metamorpho be the one to actually save the Batcave. It's a shame we won't be seeing more of this group of heroes .. it's a nice mix of characters.

It's also a shame we never got to see Anarky's final endgame during the show's run. It was a nice ending, with him preparing to play another game of chess with Batman, but sadly we won't see the results. I'm going to miss this show - I thought it was an excellent Batman cartoon. I liked it from the beginning, but I admit something was still off about it. This second half of the show managed to turn things around and become much more exciting and suspenseful, all leading to a very satisfying conclusion. Overall, an amazing Batman series which was treated so terribly and, as a result, was sadly cancelled way before its time.
