Review
Static and Hotstreak are forced to work together when they are chained
together on a mysterious island.
While battling Hotstreak Static and his nemesis are knocked unconscious
by soldiers and taken aboard a hovercraft headed to an island; they
manage to escape but are still handcuffed together. They find out that
Edwin Alva has captures Rubberband Man, Talon and Gear to use their
energy to revive his son who is still a statue. Static convinces
Hotstreak to save them and they sneak into the lab. They find a key and
free their handcuffs and the others. Alva pleads with Static to help his
son and Static and Hotstreak agree to use their powers on the machine to
revive Junior. They are successful and Alva gives a hovercar to
Hotstreak in gratitude.
This is my personal favorite episode of Static Shock. A LOT of twists
and turns in it that I did not see coming; while I expected Alva's
involvement because of the teaser Rubberband Man was a nice surprise and
I really like his new costume. Static and Hotstreak had a bunch of cool
moments together and we learn a few things about Hotstreak's past which
explain a lot. I also love how unapologetically stupid Hotstreak is when
he's trying to figure out what the handcuffs are made out of. "It's some
kind of high-tech something or other." "Can I quote you on that
Professor?"
I always thought it was cool how despite the way he treated his son in
Junior that Alva really cared for him and was willing to do anything to
revive him. This episode seemed to work on just about every level.
The animation was neat here too. While I have to deduct half a star for
the bad CGI sports car the rest of it was fast-paced and beautiful. This
is one of the greatest episodes of the show, period, and is the definate
high point of the fourth season.
