Bio (Official): Once the head of the government's Infiltration
Unit Program, Doctor Eli Selig is the man who created Zeta. His hands in
every robotic system, his genius behind Zeta's artificial intelligence,
Selig knows Zeta's abilities and limitations better than anyone else on
Earth. Because of this, Zeta has good reason to believe that Selig can
help him. If anyone will believe that Zeta's capable of valuing life; if
anyone has the influence to call off the agents -- Doctor Selig is the
one.
The problem is, Selig no longer heads the Infiltration Unit Program.
Since building Zeta, he's moved on to another government project -- one
far more confidential than his past work. Even Agent Bennet lacks the
clearance to find out what it is.
At his current level of secrecy, Selig has become a phantom -- appearing
where and when his work demands, but always keeping his itinerary close
to the vest. He will on occasion surface, to aid other scientists or
lecture at conferences, but because his security is so sensitive, his
appearances are never announced until the last minute.
Over the course of the series Zeta will hunt for Doctor Selig, but with
little success for a very long time. In the first thirteen episodes,
Selig might only be seen once or twice. And even when he's around, he'll
remain unattainable. For example, in one episode, Selig will be frozen
alive in a cryogenic accident, and it will be up to Zeta to save his
life. Then after struggling for hours to revive the scientist, Zeta and
Ro will be forced to run just as he's coming to. In this way, even when
Selig is present, we'll delay Zeta's actually getting to speak with him
for as long as possible.
What little we do see of Doctor Selig will give us the impression of a
kind, gentle soul -- and this will fuel the theory that Zeta's values
are no accident. But any confirmation of Selig's motives will be out of
reach for much of the series. Whether he really can -- or cares to --
save Zeta from the men over his shoulder, is something we may not learn
until the final episode.

Bio: The head and creator of The Zeta Project, Dr. Selig eluded
Zeta’s search for a long time. Attempting to find him to get Selig to
explain that he wasn’t evil and didn’t want to kill anymore (due to a
secret chip that Dr. Selig hid inside Zeta, which gave him a conscience
and morals), Zeta eventually tracked him down.
Unfortunately for Zeta, he was never able to reveal himself to Selig
until the station they were on, Dr. Selig’s floating fortress, the
“Knossos”, began to explode, drowning out Zeta’s words.
What Dr. Selig was remains a mystery; whether human or robot, Selig’s
true form is unknown. |
