Teen Titans – Review: Calling All Titans

The final game has begun. While the Titans are spread out throughout the globe
on one last mission, Brotherhood mastermind the Brain makes his move. Robin has
a strategy of his own, but as ALL the villains begin taking down ALL the
superheroes ALL at once, will it be enough to save his friends?

It’s no secret I’ve utterly detested this season of Teen Titans.
Over half of the season I’ve found to be dull and repetitive and now that we’re heading into the final stretch it looks like this
Brotherhood of Evil play may not end up sucking so much after all—if only they got to this point early on, then we wouldn’t have had to have so much filler.

This episode is the perfect set up for (I’m guessing) the final two episodes. A ton of cameos from villains and heroes as well as focus on our main five, this episode gave the rest of the Titans knowledge that the Brotherhood was about to come down on them hard. Robin discovered it was his entire fault (Batman’s “What are you, retarded?” from the famed All-Star Miller/Lee comic fits here) and that the communicators were how the Brotherhood was tracking them. Rewiring his communicator, Robin sent out a beacon that fried all communicators, disabling the Brotherhood’s tracking ability. Rouge caught up with Robin and drones delivered Aqualad,
Speedy, Menos and Argent’s bodies, but all other Titans seem to have survived.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Robin tied up and captured by the Brotherhood and the usual “could this be the end of our hero!?”
type dialogue. Not complaining mind you, but if there isn’t a big payoff, the final season of Teen Titans will also (to me) be its worst.

Animation and music wasn’t anything spectacular. Some nice humor from Beast Boy and dialogue between the main Titan five rounds out the episodes positive points and fans of the comic will no doubt have lapped up the excessive amount of cameos of heroes and villains (and I do mean excessive—more so than Justice League Unlimited).
A repeat viewing before next weeks finale may do us all good, so we’re all ready for the big show down.
