Teen Titans – Review: Crash

When Beast Boy mistakes Cyborg’s system recharger for a video game system, he accidentally infects it with a nasty computer virus. The virus quickly spreads to Cyborg himself, causing the half-teen-half-machine to go haywire.
The only way to stop the virus is to shrink down to microscopic size and go on a fantastic voyage inside Cyborg.

Comedy episodes have always had trouble in action cartoons. Some people expect action; after all, they are watching an action adventure cartoon.
Others really don’t mind the change, and welcome the adjustment in tone.
Teen Titans doesn’t fit into any of the categories, because it’s an action adventure comedy cartoon. One of the best of its kind too, the writers have actually chosen to develop the characters, and place them in good plots and
GASP! Don’t treat 8 year olds like they where dropped on their head at birth.

Which is why it’s confusing that this episode was so… bleh. There were some damn humorous scenes, mostly from Cyborg’s eating habits and the gravy line.
The rest of the Titans chasing him seemed a little pointless, as we all knew it had to be Beast Boy who saved him.

As I’ve mentioned before in my reviews, Beast Boy annoys the hell out of me.
Unfortunately, he falls into the typical cartoon comic relief character, the one you want to punch in the face as hard as you can, then kick whilst he’s down. Pair him with Gizmo, the Titans most irritating yet overexposed villain, you’ve got an episode that could make you cringe. Surprisingly, it doesn’t. The episode isn’t a bad episode, in the slightest; it’s just not something that is all that good.

Animation wise, the episode was fluent more than likely because a lot of the episode took place in ‘high world’, and it’s easier to animate. A special mention must go to Khary Payton, who has perfect comic deliverance.
Ultimately, he was the stand out aspect of this episode.
