“Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” Two-Disc Special Edition DVD, Advertisement Update
Warner Home Video has confirmed for The World’s Finest that there will be a Two-Disc Special Edition DVD release for the upcoming Green Lantern: Emerald Knights direct-to-video animated feature. Until now, only a single-disc DVD and Blu-ray Combo Disc release were confirmed for Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. While no specific details are currently available for the release, the studio has confirmed the two-disc DVD edition will be an American Wal-Mart exclusive title, available only from the retail giant in beginning June 7th, 2011. The standard Single-Disc DVD edition and Blu-ray Combo Disc release of Green Lantern: Emerald Knights will be available at all online and retail outlets as of June 7th, 2011. Hi-Res Images From Upcoming “Batman: Year One” Direct-To-Video Animated Feature
Warner Home Video has provided The World’s Finest with hi-res images of two previously released stills from the upcoming direct-to-video Batman: Year One animated feature. The animated feature, due to hit shelves Fall 2011 from Warner Home Video, adapts the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name. Batman: Year One voice cast details include Bryan Cranston as Lieutenant James Gordon, while Ben McKenzie as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Eliza Dushku as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katee Sackhoff as Detective Sarah Essen, and Alex Rocco as crime lord Carmine Falcone.
Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu are directing Batman: Year One from a script by Tab Murphy. Montgomery and Liu are both regular contributors to the DC Universe Animated Original Movie direct-to-video line from Warner Home Video, while this is only Murphy’s second project under the banner. His first was Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

Hall of Fame Professional Wrestler Brings Bolphunga to Animated Life in All-New DC Universe Animated Original Movie Coming June 7 to Blu-Ray, DVD
Rowdy Roddy Piper ruled the wrestling ring for the better part of four decades, crafting a Hall of Fame career that brought cheers and huzzahs from fans across the globe. Along the way, Piper established numerous milestones that set his career apart from all others.
At age 15, Piper was the youngest professional wrestler to ever enter the squared circle and he would proceed to hold more than 38 titles while eclipsing 7,000 victories in professional matches. It was the main event at the very first Wrestlemania pitting Piper and Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T that truly established the WWE.
Of course, any fanboy worth his weight in comics can recite Pipers famous lines from John Carpenters cult classic They Live. Wherever he goes, somebody asks Piper if he has any bubblegum.
Today, Piper continues to entertain and educate, whether it be via his one-man show or as a best selling author of an autobiography entitled In the Pit with Piper. And on June 7, fans can experience Pipers acting chops in his very first voiceover role for animation as the barbaric Bolphunga in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights will be distributed by Warner Home Video on Blu-Ray, DVD, On Demand and for Download June 7, 2011.
Pipers character Bolphunga the Unrelenting is the central antagonist in the episodic segment entitled Mogo Doesnt Socialize. Based on the 1985 story created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the story centers on Bolphungas search for Mogo, the largest Green Lantern, in hopes of engaging the famed warrior in a battle worthy of the villain. The role serves as a perfect vehicle to showcase Pipers strength and wonderful sense of humor.
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights weaves six legendary stories of the Green Lantern Corps rich mythology around preparations for an attack by an ancient enemy. As the battle approaches, Hal Jordan mentors new recruit Arisia in the history of the Green Lantern Corps, telling tales of Avra (the first Green Lantern) and several of Hals comrades including Abin Sur, Kilowog, Laira and Mogo. In the end, Arisia must rise to the occasion to help Hal, Sinestro and the entire Green Lantern Corps save the universe from the destructive forces of Krona.
Primetime television stars Nathan Fillion (Castle) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) lead a diverse array of performers as the voices behind the Green Lantern Corps, including actor/spoken word artist Henry Rollins (Sons of Anarchy, The Henry Rollins Show), Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter films), Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy), Kelly Hu (The Vampire Diaries) as Laira and Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Deegan. Radio Hall of Fame commentator/talk show host Michael Jackson voices the esteemed Guardian, Ganthet.
Bruce Timm is executive producer of GGreen Lantern: Emerald Knights. Directors are Lauren Montgomery, Jay Oliva and Christopher Berkeley. Oliva directed Mogo Doesnt Socialize from a script by Gibbons.
Piper spent a few moments after his recording session to discuss his current activities, his love of acting, and the responsibilities of being a role model. Listen closely because Roddy just ran out of chewing gum.
QUESTION: Green Lantern: Emerald Knights was your first-ever voiceover for animation. How was the experience?
RODDY PIPER:That was about as much fun as I could ever hope to have. You can really lose yourself in an animated role. Theres so much freedom, so much room for creativity. Its a blast.
QUESTION: Professional wrestling gave you plenty of experience being both the villain and the hero. How does the public perceive you today?
RODDY PIPER: I guess a lot of folks have grown up with me and, in an awkward way, for people who really have seen the good sides of me, Im like a father figure. Its remarkable every place I go, theres somebody that has an inspiring tale to tell. At one of my shows, there was a policeman named Paul who had been awarded a Congressional citation for saving someones life. He came up and gave me his citation. He said that when he was a little boy, he had troubles but he would watch me and thats where he found inspiration and direction. So when he goes into a tough situation, he relates to (my actions), and he says it saved his life.
The profession that I took upon is a lawless, tough piece of work, and so many of my friends are dead now. So in my one-man show, I tell the folks about people that they grew up with, people that they may have related to in different ways. My profession is very renegade. But as crazy as it seems, its as real as it gets.
QUESTION: Whats your approach to performing these one-man shows?
RODDY PIPER: I was with Burt Reynolds at his house in Jupiter (FL) and he said to me, The one thing I try to convey as actors is that we dont get enough Atta Boys. So I try to make them leave with an Atta Boy. And that really sticks with me. Encouragement is an essential.
QUESTION: You seem like a natural for animation. Whats your attraction to playing an animated character?
RODDY PIPER: I like the fact that I can go away and lose myself so I dont have to live in the world of courage that everyone else does. I like creating, its what I do, and acting allows me to stretch all those different muscles in all kinds of ways. Thats pretty cool.
QUESTION: There are those that would claim wrestling is acting. What are the key differences in those two performances?
RODDY PIPER: Wrestling and acting couldnt be anymore different in terms of what it takes to entertain. Wrestling is explosion, acting is implosion. One really screws up the other. Thats why Hogan sucks. If I came out on camera like I do in Madison Square Garden, it would look crazy. Clint Eastwood just shakes his head and raises his eye and it works. But when youve got 96,000 people at Wrestlemania, I need to get through to the back row. Fighting is not internal, but it can be very spiritual. Everything acting is internal. One of my problems in making the transition is pulling back, but Im working on it.

Writer/Producer Joshua Fine Shares His Thoughts On DC Entertainment Cartoon Shows
Writer/Producer Josh Fine, whose recent work includes the acclaimed The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, took a few moments from his busy schedule to discuss his thoughts on DC Entertainment’s slate of animated shows starring DC Comics characters. Please note these questions were answered after Fine left the position of Marvel Animation Director of Development last month.
The World’s Finest: What DC Comics-based cartoons are you watching right now?
Josh Fine: I’m following Young Justice right now, which has been a fun show. I’m a fan of Greg Weisman’s shows, having worked with him on The Spectacular Spider-Man a few years back. I also love Phil Baroussas character designs. He did an incredible job for us on Planet Hulk and the upcoming Thor: Tales of Asgard which releases in a month. It’s cool to see his takes on this other universes characters.
I’ve also been taking some time to catch up on episodes of Justice League / Justice League Unlimited that I missed.
WF: Would you ever consider working on a DC comics-based cartoon project? Any favorite characters in particular?
JF: Yes, I definitely would. Many have heard that I recently left Marvel to focus on forwarding my career as a writer, so I don’t think this is taboo for me to say anymore. I grew up reading equal parts Spider-Man, X-Men, and Batman comics, and the X-Men and Batman animated series of the nineties were instrumental in turning me into a fan of both comics in general and the Marvel and DC pantheons respectively. My favorite DC character is probably Robin. I always really liked the idea of a kid who had been trained by Batman, this brilliant detective and master martial artist. A kid who’s thrust into the same crazy world of Gotham City, but is more vulnerable, less prepared, and in a lot of ways more human than the Dark Knight himself.
WF: How do you think DC Comics-based cartoons differ from Marvel? How does The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes differ from, say, Justice League?
JF: I’m not sure that there’s a fundamental difference that you can really point to outside of the characters. I think most of the shows that Marvel has made recently are very different even from one another, and the same could be said for DC’s recent work. The main difference comes from the type of characters that you find in each. DC was really built on an idea of dream-fulfillment, how cool would it be to have all of these abilities? All of these resources? To be able to face down impossible odds by yourself? On the Marvel side of things, the Universe was founded on the human struggles of the characters. Sure Spidey has amazing abilities, but with that power comes extraordinary responsibility. It means that its hard to be Peter Parker you’re always going to be late for that date, you’re always going be just barely scraping by financially. I think there’s a human element in Marvel’s characters that you can really relate to on a human level. Where DC is sort of the guys that you aspire to become.
WF: Is there room for both DC Comics and Marvel cartoons, both on the comic shelves and on DVD shelves?
JF: No. One must die.
The great thing about being a fan of comics and cartoons and Super Heroes is that there’s no reason why you cant just enjoy both. It’s like I quite enjoy Pizza. But I also love Ice Cream. It would kind of suck if I had to pick one of the other. I’d much rather eat both. Preferably in quick succession.
