TWO-FACE: Attention, people of Gotham City. I've got a simple equation for you. One plus one equals Armageddon. When these liquids are mixed together they create a nasty gas. Unless I receive twenty-two millions dollars by 2 a.m. they'll be two kinds of citizens in Gotham: the dying and the dead.

BRUCE: Dick.

Review: If you read the LOST
YEARS mini-series, then you know what's going on here before the show, and you already know the story. If you didn't, you're completely in the dark. That is really counting against the writing in this episode. It should have been a two-parter explaining Tim's father, how Tim became obsessed with Batman, how Tim got the batarang, and most of all, where
'the old Robin' went. Many people are confused over the Robin to
Nightwing transformation. I often get questions from friends asking why did Robin de-age, and who's that older guy in black? This episode could have explained this, but didn't. As for the rest of the episode, it was quick and quite crammed into the time slot. Two-Face's plot was traditional, but it wasn't expanded on.
Again, two parts were really needed! The animation was horrible. It looked as if the animators were trying to get the squared and angled characters down, and not paying attention to the action. Batgirl performs many lop-sided flips and kicks, Batman is short and chunky, Robin is quite tall compared to other episodes, the list goes on. The good point in this episode: Batman's cold-hearted attitude. When discovering about Steven Drake's demise and Batgirl tries to sugar coat it for Tim, Batman comes out and admits he's dead right away. Also, he is not the least bit pleased about the new Robin idea, and decides to make it hard on him during the training. The best part of the episode though is the return of Dick, but it would have been more affective if he had been missing for a season and then returned, or even if it was explained how he disappeared in the first place. I'm done ranting now. |
