Review: The animation was this pseudo stuff that TNBA seems to use a lot, and it just doesn't work. I don't know if it's the new style affecting the animators or what, but it just doesn't work. Faces look terrible and action is clunky. There were some nicer done bits such as the plant-people melting, but in general, it wasn't too great. Also, something was just wrong in this episode.
Batman was more monotonous than normal, Ivy was too vibrant and not herself, and Robin just sat around and narrated some of the actions. Some of the better touches were Robin being sick at the sight of Ivy's plant people (remember, he's new to all of this), the use of the Mask of the Phantasm creation of Batman music when Bruce quit being Batman, and the final moments with Batman flipping his ring into the ocean. There was also the guest list at Bruce's wedding that was nice to see, including Jim Gordon, Mayor Hill, Lucius Fox, Summer Gleeson, Kirk and
Francine Langstrom, Jack Ryder, Jason Blood, Dr. LeLand and Leslie
Thompkins. Those small touches made the episode a bit better. Frankly, this episode wasn't too bad story wise though. It would have seriously benefitted from an original BTAS' length of 22 to 24 minutes rather than TNBA's 18 to 20 time period. It also would have benefitted from better animation, and better voice acting. |
