Amazon Prime Video Gives “Batman: Caped Crusader” Two-Season Order, Acquires Additional Animated Batman Projects
Batman: Caped Crusader is heading to Amazon Prime Video, and it won’t be alone. The streaming service announced that, in addition to the long in-the-works upcoming Batman animated series by Bruce Timm, two other Batman-themed animated projects are coming to Prime. The other two projects picked up include the Merry Little Batman animated movie and it spin-off series, Bat-Family. All projects were originally slated for HBO Max. Prime Video today announced the acquisition of two new DC animated Batman series, alongside an original animated film from Warner Bros. Animation and DC. The film Merry Little Batman is ordered with a spinoff series, Bat-Family, along with a two-season order for Batman: Caped Crusader, from executive producers Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves. The Batman animated titles will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

Merry Little Batman is an animated family action comedy destined to join the rogue’s gallery of classic holiday movies. When young Damian Wayne finds himself alone in Wayne Manor on Christmas Eve, he must transform into “Little Batman” in order to defend his home and Gotham City from the crooks and supervillains intent on destroying the holidays. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based on characters from DC, Merry Little Batman is directed by Mike Roth (Regular Show) from a screenplay by Morgan Evans (Teen Titans Go!). Roth also serves as executive producer, alongside Sam Register.
Following the events of Merry Little Batman, Bat-Family follows Batman, Alfred, and young Damian Wayne-who has now taken on the mantle of Little Batman-alongside a few newcomers to Wayne Manor, as they navigate the fun and frustrations of life as a super family. Dynamic Music Partners has announced Teen Titans Original Soundtrack, Volume Two, an extensive soundtrack featuring music from the show’s acclaimed second season, will be available through digital retailers and streamers starting March 24, 2023. The soundtrack is being released through the collaborative’s own label, Dynamic Soundtrack Releases. As with 2022’s Teen Titans Original Soundtrack, Volume One, the release includes 99 tracks culled specifically from the show’s second season. Discovery Home Entertainment returns to WonderCon 2023 with its traditional big screen debuts of DC animated films – headlined this year by the World Premieres of the highly anticipated Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham and Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part One during the March 24-26 weekend in Anaheim, CA. Both screenings will be followed by panel discussions amongst cast and filmmakers.
Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham will premiere on Friday, March 24 at 6:00pm in the Arena. To date, confirmed talent to participate on the post-screening panel is Natalie Alyn Lind (Big Sky, The Goldbergs, Gotham) as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince and RWBY’s long-running cast – Lindsay Jones (Camp Camp) as Ruby, Kara Eberle (RWBY: Ice Queendom) as Weiss, Arryn Zech (The Detective is Already Dead) as Blake, and Barbara Dunkelman (Blood Fest) as Yang – alongside Jeannie Tirado (Soul, Saints Row) as Green Lantern, and Tru Valentino (The Rookie, The Cuphead Show!) as Cyborg. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced it will release Max Fleischer’s Superman 1941-1943 to Blu-ray and Digital HD on May 16, 2023. This newly-remastered set of Max Fleischer’s 17 animated Superman shorts has been meticulously restored from the original 35mm source elements to achieve the animators’ originally intended production quality. Warner Bros. Discovery has meticulously remastered Max Fleischer’s treasured set of 17 animated Superman shorts from the original 35mm source elements. Max Fleischer’s Superman 1941-1943 will be available to purchase Digitally on HD and on Blu-ray May 16, 2023.
Superman made his comic book debut in 1938, appearing in Action Comics #1 (dated June 1938, but officially published on April 18, 1938), and the Man of Steel’s popularity grew with his subsequent radio program. Max Fleischer gave the world’s first Super Hero his initial animated spotlight, producing 17 theatrical animated shorts from September 1941 to July 1943 that further elevated the character’s profile, and added many significant aspects to his canon – including coining many of Superman’s patented catchphrases and attributes.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s advanced remastering process began with a 4K, 16-bit scan of Fleischer’s original 35mm successive exposure negative. Staying true to the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.37-to-1, the highest quality raw image was then scanned and then entered into the recombine process – utilizing special proprietary software to merge the successive exposure Technicolor negatives into a single RGB color image. The end result are pristine animated shorts that have been restored to the animators’ originally intended production quality.
Well known radio actors Clayton “Bud” Collyer and Joan Alexander reprised their famed The Adventures of Superman radio show roles for the Fleischer/Famous Studios animated shorts as Superman/ Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively. Jackson Beck provided the voice of Perry White and the show’s primary narrator. Additional voices, many of whom had participated in the Superman radio program, were provided by Jack Mercer, Grant Richards, Julian Noa, Lee Royce, Max Smith, Sam Parker and Carl Meyer.
