The Tomorrowverse is a unified continuity of interconnected animated feature films produced under the DC Universe Movie line (also known as the DC Universe Animated Original Movie line). Developed by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the franchise was overseen by producers Butch Lukic and Jim Krieg. The Tomorrowverse spanned releases from 2020 through 2025.
The continuity was established in the aftermath of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, the final installment of the DC Universe Animated Movie continuity. That film concluded with Barry Allen traveling back in time to reset reality, thereby setting the stage for a new shared universe. The Tomorrowverse formally launched with Superman: Man of Tomorrow in August 2020, which served as the first canonical entry in the newly-formed continuity and the film from which the universe takes its name. Over the course of the following years, nine additional in-continuity titles were released, during which time the fan-originated “Tomorrowverse” designation was formally adopted as the official branding for this era.
Like the interconnected DC Universe Animated Movie titles that preceded it, the Tomorrowverse is composed of standalone films linked by recurring characters, shared narrative threads, and deliberate cross-references. Although not originally conceived as the endpoint of the franchise, the Tomorrowverse ultimately concluded with a three-part loose adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths functioned both as the narrative culmination of the Tomorrowverse and the final release in Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s DC Universe Movie line.
Despite the shuttering of the Tomorrowverse and the DC Universe Movie line, a substantial library of animated features remains available, including titles released prior to Superman: Man of Tomorrow, including stand alone titles and the earlier DC Animated Movie Universe continuity films which paved the way for the Tomorrowverse. Additionally, more animated features and projects are currently being developed by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment.
