“Batman: The Animated Series,” “Batman Beyond,” “Green Lantern: The Animated Series,” More, Coming January 2021 To HBO Max
HBO Max has announced that Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, among many other titles, will be joining the streaming service starting January 1, 2021. HBO Max is an American-based subscription video on demand streaming service from AT&T’s Warner Media, which owns publisher DC Comics and its characters.
Warner Media confirms that all 109 episodes of Batman: The Animated Series will be available, as will all 52 episodes of Batman Beyond and 26 episodes of Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Also confirmed is the addition of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. HBO Max previously added Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero, Batman & Harley Quinn back in July 2020, with Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman also recently added to the service’s library. The majority of the DC Comics-based animated content coming to HBO Max was previously available on the DC Universe streaming service, which is in the process of switching over to a comics-exclusive streaming platform starting January 2021.
Additional related titles coming January 2021 to HBO Max include the DC Showcase Batman: Death in the Family interactive animated short, the CW Seed Vixen animated series, and the DC Universe Movie titles Batman: Bad Blood, Batman: Hush, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, Superman: Doomsday and Superman: Man of Tomorrow. HBO Max has been regularly adding DC Comics-based animated and live-action content since it launched May 27, 2020, including porting over content from the DC Universe service such as the Harley Quinn and Young Justice animated series. More content – both new and classic – is slated to be added to the service in 2021 and beyond.
Additionally, The Batman is slated to join the streaming service starting February 15, 2021. All 65 episodes plus the series’ spin-off feature will be available.

Batman: The Animated Series

Batman Beyond
Terry McGinnis was just an ordinary teenager…until his father was mysteriously murdered. Suspecting foul play at his father’s company Wayne/Powers Corporation, Terry meets Bruce Wayne and learns a secret identity hidden for decades. Now too old to battle injustice, Wayne refuses to help. So Terry does what any brash young kid would do: steal the Batsuit and take matters into his own hands! Vowing to avenge his father’s death, Terry dons the high-tech suit tricked out with jetpacks, a supersensitive microphone and even camouflage capabilities in search of his father’s assassin. Get in on the action from the beginning of a new partnership between an ex-crimefighter and his apprentice.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series
The Green Lantern lights up adventure in this CG animated action series from world-renowned producer, artist and animator Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League). Based upon the DC Comics legend, this 26-episode groundbreaking superhero series follows Earth’s Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, a onetime test pilot who’s used to being in dangerous situations – but he’s never faced anything like this! Set in the farthest reaches of deep space, Green Lantern: The Animated Series finds Hal on the Guardian Frontier, where he must face down an invasion from the Red Lantern Corps. Powered by pure rage, the evil Red Lanterns have sworn to destroy the Green Lantern Corps and everything they stand for. Dispatched on the experimental spacecraft The Interceptor, Hal is soon joined by a group of heroes on a mission to protect Guardian Space – and the Green Lantern Corps itself!

DC Comics is releasing a new Batman Adventures trade paperback collection come April 2021, as shown in DC Comics’ March 2021 comic solicitations. The collection, titled Batman Adventures: Riddle Me This!, includes an assortment of issues from both Batman: Gotham Adventures and Batman Adventures, focused on the classic Batman foe. Set in the midst of the swinging 1970s, this Elseworlds adventure finds Bruce Wayne training under a master sensei. It is here that Bruce, along with other elite students, is forged in the fire of the martial arts discipline. The lifelong bonds they form will be put to the test when a deadly menace arises from their past. It will take the combined efforts of Batman, world-renowned martial artists Richard Dragon, Ben Turner and Lady Shiva, and their mentor O-Sensei to battle the monsters of this world and beyond!
The ensemble cast features a core group of actors playing martial arts students-turned-heroes in David Giuntoli (Grimm, A Million Little Things) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Iron Chef America, Hawaii Five-0) as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu (Arrow, X2: X-Men United) as Lady Shiva and Michael Jai White (Spawn, reprising his role from Arrow) as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger. Producers are Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Kimberly S. Moreau (Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The film is dedicated to legendary DC writer Dennis O’Neil, who co-created the characters Richard Dragon, O-Sensei, Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva. O’Neil passed away on June 11, 2020.

DC Comics Extends “Batman: The Adventures Continues,” Issue #8 Coming January 2021
DC Comics is extending the popular digital first series Batman: The Adventures Continue for one more month at least, with issue #8 hitting shelves at the start of January 2021. The extension was revealed as part of DC Comics’ January 2021 comic solicitations. The (now) eight-issue series, which features new stories from the world of Batman: The Animated Series, debuts new issues digitally before print editions are made available one-two months later. The content in Batman: The Adventures Continue #8, the print version, will be released as digital-first Batman: The Adventures Continue issues #15 – 17 later in 2020. Home Entertainment has released a new Batman and Robin-centric clip from DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family, a special upcoming interactive stand-alone release from the DC Showcase animated shorts line. The highly-anticipated feature, which arrives on Blu-ray and Digital starting October 13, 2020, is the label’s first-ever venture into interactive storytelling. “Batwheels” Preschool Action-Adventure Comedy Series In Production For Cartoon Network, HBO Max
Warner Bros. Animation has announced Batwheels, a preschool-level action-comedy animated series, is currently in production for Cartoon Network and HBO Max. Batwheels marks DC Comics’ first-ever Batman preschool series, which will be CGI-animated. The upcoming series will air on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, as well as globally across all Cartoon Network platforms. Press details are below, along with a first-look image.

Buckle up and put on your capes! Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) is beginning production on Batwheels, a preschool animated action-adventure comedy series starring the most heroic and iconic vehicles from the DC universe. The upcoming series will air on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, as well as globally across all Cartoon Network platforms.
“Batwheels is the perfect show to headline our new foray into preschool,” said Tom Ascheim, President, Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics (GKYAC). “I can’t wait for all the aspiring super heroes out there to meet this whole new batch of crime-fighters.”
They are a team of incredible crimefighters who have banded together to oppose evil, combat crime and clean up the streets of Gotham City. They are…okay, they’re NOT Batman and Robin. They’re the Batwheels – an awesome group of sentient super-powered crime-fighting vehicles defending Gotham City alongside Batman, Robin, Batgirl and a host of DC Super Heroes.
Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience. Led by Bam (The Batmobile), the Batwheels – Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Red (The Redbird), Jett (The Batwing) and Buff (The Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.

Home Entertainment has released a look at the opening credits to DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family, a special upcoming interactive stand-alone release from the DC Showcase animated shorts line. The highly-anticipated animated short, which arrives on Blu-ray and Digital starting October 13, 2020, is the label’s first-ever venture into interactive storytelling. Produced, directed and written by Brandon Vietti, DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family offers an inventive take on the long-demanded story. In the new animated presentation, the infamous murder of Batman protégé Jason Todd will be undone, and the destinies of Batman, Robin and The Joker will play out in shocking new ways as viewers make multiple choices to control the story. And while Batman: Under the Red Hood provides a baseline, the story also branches in new directions and features several characters previously unseen in the original film. Bruce Greenwood (The Resident, Star Trek, iRobot), Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) and John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time) reprise their Batman: Under The Red Hood roles of Batman, young Jason Todd and The Joker, respectively. Other featured voices are Zehra Fazal (Young Justice) as Talia al Ghul and Gary Cole (Veep) as Two-Face and James Gordon.
Please note DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family will have multiple viewing formats on home media. The Blu-ray features all of the 2019-2020 DC Showcase shorts in hi-definition, including the fully-interactive, extended-length DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family, plus a digital version of the four other 2019-2020 shorts. For the digital release, DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family will be presented in a non-interactive format (pre-assembled version of the story, entitled Under the Red Hood: Reloaded), along with the other four 2019-2020 DC Showcase shorts, and three other non-interactive versions of the DC Showcase: Batman – Death in the Family (entitled Jason Todd’s Rebellion, Robin’s Revenge and Red Hood’s Reckoning) as bonus features.
