“Batman: Gotham by Gaslight,” “Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay,” Two-Part “Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen” Animated Movies Announced
Revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Batman and Harley Quinn World Premiere panel, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced three DC Universe Animated Original Movie titles slated for 2018 and a peak into 2019. The movies will include animated adaptations of classic DC Comics stories and a title set the DC Universe Animated Original Movie continuity.
First out of the gate will be Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, an adaptation of DC Comics title of the same name. In the classic Elseworlds story, Batman is re-imagined as a detective in Victorian times and is pitted against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper. The title will be released in Early 2018.
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will follow in Spring 2018 and is the first Suicide Squad movie set within the DC Universe Original Movies’ shared continuity. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will feature an original story and an extensive voice cast.
Lastly, the 2018 lineup of DC Universe Original Movies concludes with Death of Superman, the first part of the two-parter. Adapting the legendary story of Superman’s fatal battle with Doomsday, this will actually be the second DC Universe Original Movie to adapt the material. The first, 2007’s Superman: Doomsday, was the very first DC Universe Original Movie and condensed and altered the original comic book event. The upcoming adaptation will be more faithful to the source material, much less condensed and will include many of the fan-favorite moments from the story that were left out of Doomsday.
In early 2019, look for Reign of the Supermen, the second part of the two-part adaptation. The film will show the rise of the Superman alternates that took his place during the year after his death. Further details will be released in the future.
Other animated movies based on DC Comics titles, but taking place outside the DC Universe Animated Original Movie banner, will also be released during the remainder of 2017 and in 2018. A sequel to the acclaimed Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders animated feature is slated to hit shelves, along with another installment in the DC Super Hero Girls animated movie line.
Additionally, a soundtrack release is coming for the Batman and Harley Quinn animated feature through WaterTower Music, though specific details are not yet available. Information will likely be released in the coming weeks.
Further details are expected to be released in the coming months for all three upcoming DC Universe Animated Original Movie titles. “Batman: Gotham By Gaslight” Slated As Next DC Universe Animated Original Movie Title
Revealed on back cover artwork on the forthcoming Batman and Harley Quinn 4K Blu-ray release, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is tentatively the next title in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie line. An official confirmation, along with further details, is expected during San Diego Comic-Con 2017. An early 2018 release is also expected. The classic Batman: Gotham by Gaslight graphic novel re-imagines Batman as a Victorian-era vigilante-detective investigating famed serial killer Jack the Ripper. Continue below for back cover art from the Batman and Harley Quinn 4K Blu-ray release confirming the title, along with artwork from the original comic.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, published by DC Comics in 1989 as a one-shot graphic novel, was written by Brian Augustyn and featured artwork by Mike Mignola. The synopsis for the original Batman: Gotham by Gaslight graphic novel release is as follows:
In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper.
Expect further details on this forthcoming DC Universe Animated Original Movie title during San Diego Comic-Con 2017, along with other titles in the line expected to be released in 2018. While the creative team and voice cast are unlikely to be revealed at this time, a rough release schedule is expected. A first look at Batman: Gotham by Gaslight will be included in the bonus features on the August 15, 2017 digital release and August 29, 2017 physical media release of Batman and Harley Quinn.

“Batman And Harley Quinn” Digital Comic Series Coming July 2017 From DC Comics
DC Comics will release a special digital comic series tie-in to the forthcoming Batman and Harley Quinn animated movie. The series will act as both a prequel and sequel to the forthcoming DC Universe Animated Original Movie title from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment. Batman and Harley Quinn arrives August 15, 2017 on Digital Download and August 29, 2017 on Blu-ray and DVD. Continue below for press details and a first look at the comic itself.
The digital series includes a prequel and sequel to the animated film this August
It’s the team-up we’ve been dreaming of as the cute psychopath Harley Quinn joins the brooding Dark Knight for a brand-new Digital First comic series, Harley Quinn and Batman. The series, from Batman: The Animated Series writer Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burchett, is an exciting new five-chapter prequel adventure to the Batman And Harley Quinn animated film coming out this August from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
“Batman and Harley, Joker and Ivy, Nightwing and Catwoman. Is there a better cast of characters anywhere in fiction?” says Templeton. “I spent some of the best years of my career working with these icons and could not be happier to be returning to Gotham City and their adventures. And to top it off, I get to work with the incomparable Rick Burchett again! Pinch me, I’m dreaming. We’re getting the band back together!”
Harley Quinn is a legend in her own mind, so when she realizes the Joker thinks of her as a sidekick, she takes her revenge. Harley’s now faced with a hard decision to break out as her own super-villain, and she’s willing to go for it!
“I spent quite a few years working with these characters in this art style,” says Burchett. “It’s like visiting old friends. For me, though, the best part is having the opportunity to work with Ty Templeton again. It’s been way too long.”
The digital series will launch Monday, July 31, with the five chapters being released bi-weekly.
But wait! Where’s the sequel?
Beginning in October, seven sequel chapters will be released digitally each week, and to make it extra-crazy, we flipped the names! Batman and Harley Quinn is a collection of stories tied to the events of the film. These chapters will feature stories and art by Jeff Parker, Craig Rousseau, Luciano Vecchio, Amanda Deibert, David Hahn, Dario Brizuela, Matthew Dow Smith, Sandy Jarrell, Ty Templeton and more.
All 12 chapters will be collected in trade paperback in summer 2018. Digital chapters will be available for download beginning July 31 via the DC Comics App, readdcentertainment.com, iBooks, comiXology.com, Google Play, Kindle Store and Nook Store.
